When are we going to crackdown on crime doms! Hello, anyone there today!

HELLO? Nothing going on I guess. I made a 50pound pot yesterday. Good times. Michael, how’d the test go?
Comment by Seth — May 2, 2007 @ 12:00 pm
Have you guys heard about the movie coming out about the Mountain Meadow Massacre? If so, what do you think?
Comment by Seth — May 2, 2007 @ 12:11 pm
Have not heard about the movie. Also, my test is tomorrow, so it’s crunch time.
Let’s talk more about The Mormons (well, at least about the parts I saw). That pesky program really cut into my studies. And I’m not sure what perspective you guys have - being defensive of the church and all - but if you were not in the church, then that program would secure that deal. It did not come across respectfully. They basically showed the reason’s Joseph Smith focused on the issues he did (for instance, he pushed for sealing families so much because in his time they were being separated and such). Also, did you hear that one “expert” that said the Book of Mormon is not a history of people long ago as it claims, but instead a book of issues of the 19th century? Something along those lines. Plus he commented on the similarity of the Book of Mormon and the KJV and the way Methodists and other religions spoke during that time. Basically just COMPLETELY discrediting the Book of Mormon, the church, and Joseph Smith in the few minutes he spoke. Any thoughts?
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 12:24 pm
i hadn’t heard that, where do you go to find out about it?
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 12:25 pm
It was all on part deuce of The Mormons. You know it’s really easy to think whatever you want about the Church… because it can only be understood through faith. Hugh Nibbley, the formost scholor in the church about archeology, said that there was no such thing as book of mormon archaeology… that these things have to be believed by faith or not at all.
Comment by Seth — May 2, 2007 @ 12:34 pm
Yeah, they also mentioned the book of exodus also makes claims of another city that they have never been able to prove.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 12:37 pm
Here is the official site for September Dawn, the mountain meadow massacre movie…

Comment by Seth — May 2, 2007 @ 12:40 pm
actualy… pretty much the entire exodus is without any scientific or archaeological prrof.
Comment by Seth — May 2, 2007 @ 12:41 pm
Well, if you already know what we are going to say, I’d like to hear what you know i’m going to say in response to your question mr Coday?
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 12:49 pm
How could you have a movie about that, it must be a snoozer since i don’t see how they could possibly drag it out for a full-lengthed movie! There wouldn’t be enough action, however, i see that it is rated R so i’m sure there will be some sex and uber-violence, and the rating prevents good little mormons from seeing it.
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 12:57 pm
Tuffy, did you see the parts I’m talking about, or were you referring to Seth’s movie post?
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 12:57 pm
I was referring to seth’s movie posts.
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 1:00 pm
And I agree with you 100% Doms, the program was very negative!
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 1:03 pm
Even the actual mormons they had on there was only featuring bad stories (the mother dying after their 8th child, and the girl being diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension - destined to die within the next few years - just before she went on her mission). Why would those mormons participate in that?
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 1:07 pm
The movie trailer is great. John Voigt saying “JEHOVAH created me to… whatever” man, i love that line. When i want to prove a point now, i will just through in a little “jehovah created me…” line and everyone will listen.
as far as the documentary went, the only people that made any sense was marlin jensen and terryl givens. everyone else was super one sided. the whole bit about the dude discrediting the book of mormon was pretty lame. if anyone has ever read the book of mormon or even flipped through it, should be able to know that the dude was going way over board on his criticism and didn’t back up anything that he said. the documentary sucked because they would give 9 bad points about the church and then spend 5 seconds with a rebutting it. it focused way too much on controversial issues that are not integral parts of the religion nor do they play a significant role in the history of the church. the fact that they spent 45 minutes on the mountain meadows massacre and then 30 seconds on the the murder of joseph smith and never mentioned any of the crap law suits he faced or the torture and persecution he suffered. the documentary served more to present small hot button issues than to explain what the church is. so much was taken out of context. i was not impressed.
but it was well done. marlen k. represented well. i’m interested in that packer article. sloth, where can i get it?
Comment by The Scam — May 2, 2007 @ 1:14 pm
suspence - have you ever read “drawing upon the powers of heaven” or “seeing with an eye of faith”? both are church books. i was wondering if they are similar at all to the secret. since i haven’t read the secret i don’t know. i went to borders the other day and checked out the secret. i haven’t bought it yet but it looked interesting. i’m going to see if the library has it.
Comment by The Scam — May 2, 2007 @ 1:15 pm
Oh yeah, and about that crime we need to crackdown on tuffy, It’s getting closer to that time. I think I’ll just let the Shi-Gen live it up a little longer, then go bust’em!
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 2:12 pm
Scam, that was great, i think i’ll use that jehovah line too, hopefully that isn’t too scaralegious. So Doms, lets crack-down on the subject at hand here, I just had an interesting conversation with a lady at work about religion and wanted to get your thoughts sense you think along the same lines. Here is what i said in an email to her
”Ok, I see you like the simplistic approach, me too. So here it is. And I don’t want to offend or upset. Let’s say that you are right, then the church is a fraud but I’m living a good life so I’ll be ok in the end. You and me will be floating around the clouds together. Now, lets say that I’m right (or more accurately the teachings of the lds church are correct) then it won’t really be the case that everything will be hunky-dory for folks. So the question is, what is truth?”
and in an later response i said, “No, you just haven’t comprehended what I’m saying, we do not believe in a heaven or a hell as most people do. We don’t think there is some dividable line that says, well, you go left and you go right. Jesus said, in my house there are many mansions. We believe in varying degrees of heaven. If you want to keep it simple, the bad people go one place, the good people go one place, the better people go one place, and the best people go another place. That is the doctrine of the church, very simplified.”
We joke around alot so some of it may seem harsh but that is how we roll. What are your thoughts Doms? Also, this lady has agreed to go to church some time, however, i doubt she’ll own up to it! BOOYAAA!
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 3:50 pm
Well, we need to get to some basic info on this lady. What kind of lady are we talking about? Single? Mid 30s? Another denomination? Give us the stats.
What was your point in the email? Was it to basically say you’re better off living as a Mormon because of the consequences if it is true? I can’t imagine that logic flying. Of course even if that is what you were saying, I know that’s not all you feel on the matter, but I’m just asking.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 4:11 pm
OH! I’ll go..and you’ll go to the Church of Christ in turn..as you promised !..right?
Comment by Leigh Ann — May 2, 2007 @ 4:13 pm
Why would her stats determine any truth?
The point of the email was just a discussion about religion and i thought you might find the points interesting? Are you done with your tests?
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 4:13 pm
Goodness gracious, boy! Don’t you read?! I said, my test is tomorrow!!
The stats are important so you can understand where she is coming from! It determines the points to focus on. Is this a battle of truth of the correct religion, or is it a battle of truth being religion or not? Important stuff here. I asked about single and age to determine her possible mindset (husband could be a factor, older vs. younger generations could be another factor).
Of course I’m interested in the points mentioned.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 4:26 pm
I’m a Christian..however, since I’m not Mormon, I’ll be in a low class mansion thousands of levels down from Jon’s.
Comment by Leigh Ann — May 2, 2007 @ 6:36 pm
lol, very funny! Maybe you and doms can live together : )
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 7:15 pm
HEY!!! This is Brooke and I don’t think that last comment (JON) will work for me!!!
Comment by Brooke — May 2, 2007 @ 7:18 pm
lol… me either, Jon ! Mind your own mansion !
Comment by Leigh Ann — May 2, 2007 @ 7:21 pm
Now that is funny business!
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 7:21 pm
Don’t you have a non-Mormon Christian to save somewhere, Jon?
Comment by Leigh Ann — May 2, 2007 @ 7:27 pm
Brings up a very intersting point that always seems to make perfect sense to me, so i’d like the outside opinion of our new audience! So how come people get so offended that we say we are the true church. What would you think if just anyone could get into your little school Doms, well them i guess is would just be like NSU! LOL
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 7:30 pm
Please! I am not offended. I’ve accepted Christ. Your focus should be those who haven’t.
Comment by Leigh Ann — May 2, 2007 @ 7:39 pm
I don’t know why people get offended either, actually. As you stated to the soulforce crowd many times, don’t they basically say the same thing when they say the Mormon church is wrong (indirectly saying their church is correct)?
It sounds like you need to give up on Leigh Ann. Isn’t the Church of Christ nondenominational? I bet they have rock concerts every Sunday. She’d get so bored at the Mormon church.
Comment by Brooke — May 2, 2007 @ 7:52 pm
Oh yeah, that was me on that last post, not Brooke.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 7:52 pm
Actually the Church of Christ uses no instruments. Yeah, give up on me, Jon.
Comment by Leigh Ann — May 2, 2007 @ 7:58 pm
There’s a big difference between Leigh Ann and me. I don’t believe any religion is true. If I did… I’d be Mormon all the way. Once you learn why the Mormons do what they do and say what they say, you can’t go back to a relaxed religion. This won’t happen if you don’t learn, though (Leigh Ann). So will god save Leigh Ann from her resistance to ever listen to the possible Truth…
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 8:15 pm
Whoa! What part of the truth am I missing? Christ is the truth.
Comment by Leigh Ann — May 2, 2007 @ 8:27 pm
That’s the difference between Mormons and other Baptist/nondenominational churches (you know, that “relaxed” comment I made earlier). The general ideas:
Baptist/nondenominational - Accept Jesus as your Savior, ask Him into your heart, get baptized; now you’re saved forever.
Mormons - Way more complex. Do the same as the other, but so much more is NECESSARY. You can’t stop where the other churches do. That’s just the first step.
Once you learn these extra steps, you’ll realize how relaxed your church is and you won’t feel adequate anymore (and for good reason). But again, you have to learn these things to have any idea of what I’m talking about. Trust me, I was as resistant as you for 6 hardcore years until I started to see my church (Baptist) for what it is compared to the Mormons! It usually starts with learning the history of your church.
I assume Jon has warned you that I’m harmless.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 8:46 pm
Has Jon said anything like this to you?
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 8:47 pm
all right doms! way to go, i knew you had it in you, its just buried in there : )
Comment by jtuffy — May 2, 2007 @ 9:31 pm
Yeah, well it looks like I scared off the newcomer. I guess I should have been more subtle.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 9:54 pm
Hey, checking out the Church of Christ’s website (not sure if it’s official - thechurchofchrist.com), it said nonbelievers are “gamblers extraordinaire”. I like the sound of that!
You should check out the site.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 10:33 pm
Leigh Ann, DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING POST!!
Man! This website must be the official and it is distracting me from my work! Leigh Ann, if you’re reading this, then no offense (well, maybe no MORE offense intended), but I’d love to meet the guy that is writing all of this stuff. He is very aggressive and commanding! I’d love to see what forms of entertainment he chooses and the foods he eats after reading his demands on the matter! You guys can click on “God & Entertainment” to see what I’m talking about, but that’s not the extent of it. It is all very good, but the best paragraph is the second one titled “MEN -” towards the bottom.
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 10:58 pm
Okay, Leigh Ann, you can read this post:
I’m sorry if you are offended by me. You’ve stepped into a forum of close friends that aren’t holding anything back. In person, we wouldn’t/couldn’t say such things (well most of us couldn’t anyway). Don’t misunderstand, you are welcome and respected here. We enjoy instigating arguments on here. That’s what it’s all about (arguable statement). Feel free to bash on me for being a “gambler extraordinaire”!! If we baby each other too much, then we won’t learn how the other side thinks. Actually, I learned to be so offensive through Jon! It’s true!
Comment by Michael — May 2, 2007 @ 11:05 pm
Look at Michael doin’ missionary work. I alway’s thought you would make a great missionary. So, if it makes so much sense to you… why work so hard to deny it? I really just don’t understand. I think we have all felt like turning away when things weren’t going the way we wanted or the way we understood they would go… but that’s what all of our recent conversations really revolve around, being humble and putting the Lord’s will before your own… even if you don’t understand his.
It sounds like you understand that but refuse to live accordingly. Just wondering why?
Comment by Seth — May 3, 2007 @ 1:02 am
Interesting Doms, The line “A woman is made to be seduced … PERIOD!” was rather strange i thought. I didn’t see the “gambler” anywhere
Comment by jtuffy — May 3, 2007 @ 7:49 am
Extremely busy today. Michael, I hope to catch you later after you wake up. I need to address your comments. fun !!
