Cameron you have to name your first born daughter after you. Cameron diaz ming.
Kresyda, you can’t use the blog until you guys get internet at home. Even trailor parks these days provide wireless internet to their tenants. You guys arn’t even sophisticated enough to live in a trailor park. LOL
Also, I had a funny dream last night. Cameron had been away, could have been on a mission but it wasn’t that for sure. You had just arrived home. You, me, Jon, and your dad were sitting chatting. You start telling a story about a girl you were sitting next to on the plane. You were telling us about your conversations on the plane, your dad was listening intently, then you busted out that she reached over and grabbed your package and held on to it while you continued talking. Jon and I obviously started laughing, And your dad didn’t say a word and stormed outa there. All of a sudden it got real akward and you followed your dad out to go explain or something. Then me and jon just hung out laughing at the situation. And that was pretty much the end of the dream. Pretty wierd.
anyways.

That is a hilarious dream you have going on there spence. Maybe you saw a glimpse into how cameron and kressyda met? LOL. So did anyone bust a gut at the chinese eye exam? Too funny.
Well football season is just around the corner, can’t wait, only about 2 1/2 weeks till kickoff, it is going to be sweeeeet. Hopefully the Sooners will be able to pull a QB together and be contenders, however, i don’t have much hope of that happening. Why can’t they get a freaking QB. BYU looks to be in the same boat but slightly better off in that category. Plus my ‘boys are looking prime for a good 3-5 year run if Tony Romo is the real deal, he looked pretty good in the 1st preseason game.
So, it looks like we never got together this summer, what about the last two weeks in May 2008. I know you monkeys will be out of school and jobs don’t start up that soon, so i think we need to come together. If we plan now, then there won’t be any excuses of “family”, or “work”, or “money” booohoooo! So quit your whinning, it is definitely possible if you want to, if you don’t that will surface in your true feelings! lol. Plus spence and I are brewing the business and if you want in, you have to come to the board meetings.

Brewing the buisness… without me? What’s the matter with you guys! Don’t you leave me outa the buisness. Oh… and on that point Jon, do you ever return phone calls? Or only if Spence tells you to?
Comment by Seth — August 14, 2007 @ 9:42 am
Oh, sorry, jenny lost my phone all last week, and when i found it on Sat i saw that i had missed quite a few calls but i just didn’t look at them. Sorry, i’ll give you a buzz sometime. the brewing business was just something spence and i talked about yesterday, it was about buying an apartment complex or a string of condos. It is good income but a little work. So i was thinking that the most likely senario for me would be to get transferred to houston in feb 2009 and if i did go there (anyway else and my equation is out of the window, which is a possiblity since jen does NOT want to go to houston) … so if i went there, i am going to try and have 15 ready to start my own business. I figure with the tax return, my bonus and the moving check all have around 15-20K (well call it 15K to use the lower figure). I don’t like tons of risk so I know I’ll have to buy a house. Here is my specific plan Based on the equity in our home right now, (and selling the house for exaclty what we paid for it), we’ll have an additional 40K of equity for a new home, Now i can take that 40K + 15K and either build a couple houses, maybe 3. That way, i know i have to live somewhere so i can live in one of the homes, if i put them all up for sale, the others are bound to sell. With additonal capital from other peeps, we could do more houses and get some economies of scale going on. The other option would be to buy a cheaper house on the market and try to buy some condos or apartments and run them on the side. This would create a small and steady stream of income as well but requires a bigger down payment to get into the game. I think that these two options are the most viable considering the low amount of upfront capital.
So a few questions would be, what would other’s like to do, what would the contribution be, what would the expectations be, what would the payout be? Any thoughts?
I think first and foremost, if we did on of these two options and it was at a different location, someone would have to be there in that location. That is a must for me.

Last year they ran out of girls housing at BYU-Idaho. It was crazy… there were girls living in cars and showering at friends houses, nuts. Also… alot of the kids refuse to live in the older apartments, seeing as how they are pretty run down. Everyone opts for the newer places. Building some places there could be a good way to go. Especialy with the way property values are escalating in the area, it could be a good investment.
I recently found out about a guy who did the same housing program we are in. He built a house, sold it and made about 30k. Imediatly reaplied and built another house, sold it making another 30k and used the money to start his own construction company. Ever since I heard this I have been thinking about trying to do the same thing. Except, after spending 10 months to build, spend a few months to make some capital improvement before selling the house. Make a little more. If I can swing this… and make 40-45k off the first, we could keep the second home and have something to contribute in the way of start up capital for whatever we decide to do as far as the buisness goes. This would put me being ready sometime in 2009 also.

Okay, check this out. I thought if you guys were going to do a bizat together, I’d want in. BUT I also thought I couldn’t because I can’t contribute the time. HOWEVER, I did just realize that I married a house-flippin freak! Brooke is very artistic, very house-flippin minded, very good, has experience with that sort of thing, and has always wanted to get involved. So maybe I can be apart of all this. Maybe we could be in charge of a house up here. I really don’t know what you guys have in mind but Brooke would be very good at flippin a house for greater resale. Are we all on the same page?

Speaking of colleges running out of apartments, you guys should check out TU. I guess scam knows what I’m talking about. During my last semester, they closed off major parking lots. This was bad news since they already had a major parking deficiency. They forced us to park way over at the basketball parking and ride shuttles that they had just established (which didn’t even travel across the entire campus). Anyway, miserable semester for that reason. Well, this was in December and I went back in July and to my surprise, apartments had popped up everywhere! There were tons of them all over campus. Crazy. Just thought you guys would enjoy that little story. Maybe for motivation.

Managing some properties could be a great way to start out and a great way to pull in some steady income so we could do other things too.
I am really into the idea of high end home renovation. I think it would be pretty awsome.
And, I still love the idea of starting some restaurants, but I think that would be a good third or fourth buisness endevor… not a first.
I know Scam has mentioned opening a used/new video game franchise that his sister is involved in. Could be cool. On the same note, I know some folks in Arizona that are trying to create a comic and game store franchise/chain. They have some really good ideas and the only comic and game chain stores are on the east coast.
And, what about your own video game developement company Jon? Is that just a dream or something you actualy want to try? I have thought about starting a game consulting company for the type of games I play with some of my friends. Handle outsourcing for prototype game peices, developement and play testing and develope our own games and selling them to other companies. It would be sweet.
I have also thought about opening art galleries. Art galleries are the way to go, you sell other peoples art and keep 40-50%! It does take alot of work to keep up with the trends and market in your area though. You just have to find some employees that can keep up with it all and offer them a sweet comision to keep sales up. Could also be a good way to pull in some steady income while requiring a minimum amount of management.
The other thing that I have experiance in that I have thought about is custom signage. Like custom designed vinal signage and hand painted wood and metal as well. The guy who owned the comic and game store in rexburg has experiance in the same field (his father did hand painted ranch signs in texas.) There is a great market in this area for these kinds of signs, with Jackson and everyone else so into the western motif.
Well, there are a few ideas. Just something to mill around in your brains.

Those are some pretty high powered ideas there seth. So if you had to pick one as the most realistic, plausable idea, what would it be. I’m definitely into the gaming stuff, but you need a lot of capital to get that going. I’m kind of looking something that has low risk so I can keep my current job (and have an income) vs. throwing caution to the wind and just starting a business i have to monitor 24/7. I would love to have a restaurant one day, but not run it. The sign company and game company sounds great but those seem like full-time jobs.
Home renovation sounds like a big-time winner, not much up-front capital involved. And usually a high percentage chance to at least break even.
Comment by jtuffy — August 15, 2007 @ 12:52 pm
Yea… I guess that last post wasn’t super clear. I think property management would be a great place to start. Good way to bring money in with a minumum amount of management (an art gallery would also be a good way to make money with a minimum amount of management… but are you guys really interested in an art gallery? Seems like more of something I would do on my own.) Getting into renovation would also be a good starting place. I think doing some of both property management (for a steady source of revenew) and renovation (for some good money) could be pretty awsome. So… that’s what I would suggest, property management and renovation.
As far as the game developement goes… I would really love to get into this, eventualy. It could be like many companies that have different divisions. We could do video and traditional games. But… as much as waiting until it’s less risky sounds good, part of me just wants to go for it. It is risky, but if we could make it work… make money off of being into games, it would be worth it. It’s like every kids our age dream (largely due to the movie Big,) to get paid for playing!
The sign buisness is just something that I know how to do and enjoy doing. If we don’t end up doing something in the near future, this is something I might consider doing on my own.
Comment by Seth — August 15, 2007 @ 1:49 pm
As far as those being “high powered ideas”… isn’t that a good thing? Where is thinking small gonna getcha? I know being realistic is important… but the people who live their dreams are the people who actualy go after them.
So, Rachel just had her last Dr appointment this morning. They decided to induce her tomarow. We are going in at 7:30 in the morning and they will get everything started.
Comment by Seth — August 15, 2007 @ 1:55 pm
That’s a pretty “high powered idea” your doctors had, seth!

Doms… have you ever had a funny idea? Seriously… how many people laugh at Doms jokes? He probably gets a chuckle outa me about 5% of the time. Usualy when he is posting alot I have to take a break from the forum because my eyes get tired from rolling so much. lol

Sometimes I guess I make jokes I feel are 7th grade level. I forget seth has a 3rd grade sense of humor. I’ll try to start dumbing them down for ya, seth.
