Hello Folks, where are all the posts, is this thing going the way of the Dodo!

Ok, I didn’t get to read much last night, since i had to mow the grass! On a side note, the grass is so much better out here than Midwest grass, its like Utah grass, soft and full. None of that hard prickly stuff! Also we are redoing the guest bathroom and the granite conter-top came in, so it’s going to look like a dez!

Back on the book, i ended last night when Billy Pilgrim had a wet dream about Montana, that was really funny. He said he woke up and it smelled like sour mushrooms or something! LOL So is he imagining all these things happening to him or does he actually experience them. I thought he actually had the experiences until reading the wet dream part, that made it seem like he was a looney a little! It is definitely interesting righting for the era, i mean, the author uses words like wang and other slang terms in a comical way.

Well… I’m a ways behind you Jon. I’m not sure if any of the crazy things happened to Billy or not. I kinda thing either way it’s sad that he spent his whole life feeling trapped by destiny. I’ve wondered if that is what Ol’ Kurt is trying to say… that we have the power to make changes in ourself and the world. What do you think.

His bluntness in talking about things is very funny. Do you remember the dirty limiric from the begining of the book? I don’t think that this is uncommon for the time period at all… I think that using it in writting was though. Popular entertainment in that time period commonly felt the need to self sensor creating a naive image for the generations to come about an inocense that didn’t really exist.

Okay, Leigh Ann… I have good news and I have bad news about your church. The bad news is, your church is a joke…

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 12:22 pm

I agree. Problem is, it’s the same for you!

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 12:26 pm

I realize that makes you feel better about your lack of faith, but it doesn’t phase the abundance of mine..at all.

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 12:33 pm

If you need more convincing, just go to the following website. It will show you exactly why your church is amazingly, hilariously wrong:

www.thechurchofchrist.com

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 12:36 pm

Looks like we have a couple of gambler extraorinaires! LOL

Comment by jtuffy — May 8, 2007 @ 12:36 pm

You could do so much for the LDS church…but, instead you’re an atheist for the LDS church. That’s hilariously sad.

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 12:41 pm

I see there is confusion between my atheism vs. my LDS pushing. Let me explain…

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 12:45 pm

No, don’t…it makes no sense to push any religion when you don’t believe in God…it’s pointless.

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 12:47 pm

What happened?

Comment by jtuffy — May 8, 2007 @ 1:04 pm

I think I made Michael cry. lol

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:09 pm

It’s like this: Imagine I am a successful scientist in DNA research (analogous to atheism)… And then I have a kid that I also want to be successful in the sciences with a strong college education. But my kid decides he wants to be a trashman (analogous to Christianity). He wants this because his friend’s dad is a trashman and has convinced him that it is more successful than any other job, he will make more money, all the girls will love him and want his body, and he will be more of a man (analogous to going to Heaven). I kick and scream and fight with him to not make such a mistake, that he is being misled! That science is the answer!! But he doesn’t listen. He begins to TRY to be a trashman anyway. I see him strutting around in his nasty dirty clothes thinking he is so cool and respected all while imitating the worst trashmen out there. I can see he is making a fool of himself, but I finally come to grips that he is going to be a trashman. So, loving him as I do, I say, “Okay, son. If you’re going to be a trashman, then you’re going to be a good one - a respectable one (analogous to the LDS church). You aren’t going to be one that is dirty, and one that doesn’t even pick up his own trash (analogous to the Church of Christ). So I’m going to send you to the best school in he world for trashmen. There you’ll learn more than any other type of trashman. Now when people see you and know your career, they will at least respect you. They won’t be able to say you don’t pick up your own trash like the other trashmen around.

Understand now?

What I’m trying to say is.. you words have no credibility! If don’t walk the talk..the talk has no value to me.

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:16 pm

blah blah blah blah …that’s all I hear from you !

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:16 pm

Speaking of walking and talking, do you honestly think there is a single person head of your church that walks-the-walk? Do you think the guy that wrote all that stuff on the website actually lives that way behind closed doors? If so, then showing you the truth on that might be a good place to start with you…

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 1:26 pm

LOL…what do you know about the way other people live?

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:28 pm

That’s an easy one… ALWAYS!

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 1:30 pm

No you don’t… you can’t judge others by what you do!

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:30 pm

We should start emailing… lol, Jon!

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:34 pm

What about Ted Haggard? Do you know who that is? I’m sure you do. He is one of a million examples of church leaders that was strongly preaching how to live EXACTLY oppositely the way HE lived! All too common. How many thousands of people would have died for that loser because they all thought he was an honorable, Christian preacher? Just like most, he was simply a lier and a salesman. It’s big business you know. Do you think the money in religion only attracts the honorable? You need to let me do all the thinking for you then…

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 1:35 pm

Michael, if I needed you to do my thinking, I’d shoot myself in the head. I’m not saying everyone is perfect!

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:37 pm

Nice jab leigh ann, too bad it cost you

Comment by jtuffy — May 8, 2007 @ 1:38 pm

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 1:54 pm

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 1:57 pm

LOL… alrighty then !!

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 2:13 pm

Looks like Leigh Ann’s a little slow on the draw today. I’m gonna have to step away for a while. I’ve got another date with Gym. Speaking of Gym, I have an amazing workout I’ve created. Too bad you guys are babies. You could really benefit from my testosterone stimulating, science-based workouts! (For those of you that don’t know, my precision workouts really do stimulate testosterone)

Comment by Michael — May 8, 2007 @ 2:13 pm

Hey, give me a break…I’m working!!!

Comment by Leigh Ann — May 8, 2007 @ 2:21 pm

Well, that wasn’t a rumble!

Back to the book seth “I kinda thing either way it’s sad that he spent his whole life feeling trapped by destiny. I’ve wondered if that is what Ol’ Kurt is trying to say… that we have the power to make changes in ourself and the world. What do you think.”

I would agree with your first statement about being trapped by destiny (which the traffalmodres SP teach; however, i think it is because of this statement that it seems like we do not have the power to chage ourself or the world around us, we just are, just existing! Why else would he let himself be killed?

Comment by jtuffy — May 8, 2007 @ 3:11 pm

yea… I agree that is how Billy felt. But I think the author is trying to illustrate how ridiculous that idea is. Look at where it got Billy, nowhere… his entirely life so unhappy that he didn’t even mind letting it slip away. It’s been a while since I read the ending… but that is how I remember feeling after reading it before. I’ll let you know if my ideas change at all this time.
