sorry about yesterday. downtown b-ville was surrounded by water. there was only one road in that wasn’t flooded. they closed down the building because that one road was about to be overtaken. so, i got the day off. very nice.

i’ll be on a plane with a whiny kid on the 4th.

Yea, I left for work at 6:30 and got home after 9. I like this job alot… but I don’t think I can keep up these hours. It is really cutting into my time to work on the house and the time I need to work on my ceramics.

okay, michael’s little rant on sunday made me think of something. when i was working at the elephant bar, this dude came in to fight one of the waitors. the waitor was this skinny punk who was no dating the other dude’s ex-girlfriend. so he came to beat the crap out of him. along with him, he brought his incredibly huge, buff friend to back him up. they just sat at the bar, biding their time. of course this pansy brought along his buff friend just in case things got a little out of hand, its expected.

just like in all the movies, you have some friend that you call when things get a little hairy. my favorite example of this is in the movie “desperado” with antonia banderas. at the end he calls up his two buddies to come make the last stand with him. they show up, guns a blazin’, and the good guys win. i think one of them gets shot, but who cares.

the point is: if you had to make a “last stand” or fight for your woman’s honor, who would you call to back you up?

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 10:20 am

I just read that too… Doms is craaaazy!

Comment by Seth — July 3, 2007 @ 10:31 am

We should call him “The Escalator” because of his uncany ability to blow things out of proportion.

Comment by Seth — July 3, 2007 @ 10:32 am

In response to Scams question. I think I would call The Wolf (Pulp fiction was on TV the otherday… sorry) No, I would call Scam… because if you’re gonna beat a body down in this day and age, you’re gonna need a lawyer. Maybe Scam could recomend a good one… zing!

Comment by Seth — July 3, 2007 @ 10:37 am

Oh man, that was too funny sethels, I know i wouldn’t call in Doms, i keep telling him i’d never go to war with him since he is always hiding out in Halo and just comes in to clean up when the chips are already on the table.

Comment by jtuffy — July 3, 2007 @ 10:39 am

So… anyone off to see Transformers over the holiday? I’m gonna check it out online, and if it’s not bad I might take Benj.

Comment by Seth — July 3, 2007 @ 10:41 am

Man, lawyer jokes are so funny.

I might take DOMS for sheer intimidation factor. I don’t know if he can fight and he’s too volitile to keep under control.
Tuffy would be good because if he came, he would make sure the fight actually went down through his “artful instigating.” Smengles would make fun of the guy until he either he left or got so angry and distracted i could sucker punch him.
Sloth - i’m not exactly sure what you would do.

Transformers looks pretty cool. I don’t know when i’m going to see it though.

Actually i don’t like seeing movies in the theater anymore, i’d rather watch them at home, the only thing, i can’t get the delicious movie theatre popcorn at home, how do they do it? I mean, the buttery goodness is so finger licking good, and then the 5 dollar ginourmous pop! Yeah, i like laying on the couch watching movies, i just wait for them to come to on-demand then watch them for 4 bucks instead of 9 bucks a person. Slimey Actors!!!

Comment by jtuffy — July 3, 2007 @ 11:02 am

you should just go to the theater and by the popcorn and then take it home to watch your movie.

the dollar theater is the way to go. big screen. little price.

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 11:08 am

they don’t have dollar theaters out here, ridiculous

Comment by jtuffy — July 3, 2007 @ 11:09 am

oh man, sounds like a jack pot waiting to happen. you should look into it.

i don’t even know what movies are coming out anymore. i can’t remember the last time i went to a theater.

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 11:16 am

seth, looks like transformers gets good reviews from fans but critics are tearing it up. thoughts?

the real question is: are you going to cheer when optimus prime shows up?

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 12:16 pm

oh man, people that cheer in movies really get me going.

Comment by jtuffy — July 3, 2007 @ 12:25 pm

you mean going “good”? or “i want to beat the crap out of all of you” bad?

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 12:41 pm

yep, what the heck happened in society that people are all crazy at movies now, before the miss, no one acting like a monkey, they came in ate their popcorn watched the movie and left.

Comment by jtuffy — July 3, 2007 @ 12:43 pm

i think it was resurrected with the star wars movies. everybody got all freaky about those and started the camping out for tickets and what not.

i find all of that interesting but could never participate. i don’t think i have ever clapped at a movie.

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 12:48 pm

You know… I cheered for marlon brando’s name in the credits of superman returns. If they use the voice for orson wells as unicron in the movie… I would cheer for that. But I’m not sure about optimus prime. Also… it depends on when you go to see it. You can act like a freak in the midnight premier without fear of impending social ramifications… at a matinee with your 2 year old, not so much.

As for the critical review, I don’t know. I tend to like good movies better than movies that rest on the laurals of their fan base. I hope that transformers has more than just fan appeal. (Batman Begins is like the ideal… great movie on it’s own, not just another movie with a superhero in it)

So, does Elliot like movies? Benj and I are watching “Empire” right now. We usualy watch it about once a week. Oh, here is a nerdy question for ya. In Phantom menace, yoda tells Anikan that, “fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate and hate leads to suffering…” and expresses in multiple instances the importance of avoiding fear. But, in Empire, when he first meets Luke he asks him if he is afraid. Luke says no, and Yoda responds, “You will be, you will be.” So, is this another Lucas discrepancy? Or is there an explanation? Thoughts?

Comment by Seth — July 3, 2007 @ 12:55 pm

Jon, you have it backwards… people used to cheer all the time, then it stopped. I remember my Dad talking about everyone standing and clapping and cheering in Rocky. And screeching in fear and then cheering when the shark finaly dies in jaws. Movies are supposed to create an emotional response, but our society is so embaressed by emotions that we refuse to give in. Or we are just content to let our emotions be played out by actors because we have forgoteen how to feel. Or most movies just suck and don’t create an emotional responce. Either way… it’s kinda sad.

Comment by Seth — July 3, 2007 @ 1:02 pm

eliot watches me throw the ball at his face. that’s about it. j/k. he watches baby einstein and some times he’ll watch lacrosse with me. other than that he doesn’t have much of an attention span.

i would like to think that Lucas knew what he was doing but more than likely he didn’t. he isn’t that good. and since he didn’t write Empire, the likelihood that there is continuity is even less. but if there were, let’s examine: i would call getting your hand chopped off and learning your mortal enemy is your father, followed by an attempted suicide probably constitute some level of fear. i think yoda knew all of this was going to happen. look at luke’s cave adventure - easily a manifestation of his internal fear.

the key was his control of the fear. did it become “hate”. maybe at the end of Jedi. but for the most part, he controls it well. it doesn’t take him down the path of suffering. thoughts?

i would cheer in a movie is i was by myself. most movies these days suck. i feel emotionally raped after watching them. no way i would cheer at a movie unless it was just awesome. i especially wouldn’t do it if everyone else were doing it.

I hate to do this, but let me tell you why Batman is the WORST superhero. One reason … he can’t move his neck! How utterly ridiculous is a superhero’s suit/armor that prevents one of our great natural abilities!

You guys are somewhat wrong about people not cheering at movies anymore or vice versa, whichever you believe. I remember one time I was with curtis and gavin and maybe a few others and we went to the movies. While we waited for our movie to start we stepped in on the beginning of another movie. We thought we knew what this movie was about, and we wanted to see if it was any good … But we were wrong. It was dark when we entered and found our seats and the movie was just beginning. It wasn’t five minutes in before we realized where we really were. Let’s just say, the first thing we realized was that the cast was all black and the atmosphere of the film was very different. Then, with each key line or action of the cast, the packed house went ballistic! Arms and feet flying everywhere! People yelling and hootin, bumping up against you! It was a mad house!

So you see, the reason you think people of today are less emotional at movies is b/c you are in the wrong crowds.

Comment by DOMS 287 — July 3, 2007 @ 2:53 pm

so i guess you hang out with the “right” crowds.

the real batman can move his neck. they just stick him in that stupid suit for the movies. besides, i’d rather not be able to move my neck than get stabbed in it.

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 3:15 pm

Yeah your neck may be safe but since it can’t move, you’ll get stabbed in the face!

Comment by DOMS 287 — July 3, 2007 @ 3:23 pm

Not to mention how ridiculous you’ll look dodging punches and trying to see what’s above or behind or beside you! Oh, and here’s a great one. If you ever have to crawl under something you won’t even be able to see what’s in front of you! That’s too funny! Who was the genius behind this comical superhero!

Comment by DOMS 287 — July 3, 2007 @ 3:26 pm

so what, who doesn’t get stabbed in the face. besides, if my neck is armored, then i would just jump and have the blow catch me in the protection. see, i’m a genius. just like batman.

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 3:27 pm

man, batman doesn’t crawl. if he ever had to crawl under something he would just blow it up. problem solved.

if i were going to be really mean (spencer) i would say: geez, DOMS, you must know how it feels to not be able to move your neck, seeing as you don’t have one. you’re just like batman.

but i’m a bigger person than that. i would never say that to your face. j/k.

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 3:29 pm

DOMS, you know i was only kidding.

well, today feels like friday and its tough for me to get anything done. similar feelings?

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 3:51 pm

Well sweet niblets, look what i missed. Super heros again. My two sense on the movies. I don’t want to spend 9 bucks plus popcorn and drinks to have some punk kids hootin and hollering all around me. And what if they are extremely “emotional” and just crack up the whole time, annoying.

Well, i’m off.

Comment by jtuffy — July 3, 2007 @ 4:01 pm

Yes, I knew you were kidding … and you were funny too.

Comment by DOMS 287 — July 3, 2007 @ 5:18 pm

sweet. i knew it. so what did you decide about coming to tulsa?

well, boys, i’m off like a prom dress.

i’ll be out for about a week. i hope you can survive without me. blow some stuff up for me.

Comment by The Scam — July 3, 2007 @ 5:26 pm

I wonder if tuffy has ran off all of his manhood yet with his 5k training. Actually, I was just trying to think of a reason to make another post in order to make my last post show up.

Comment by DOMS 287 — July 3, 2007 @ 5:27 pm

We will be in Tulsa on Monday. But I have to leave on Wed til Sunday for a conference.
