Friday June 1st Thats right friday!

The weekend is a part of the week lasting one or two days in which most paid workers do not work. This is a time for leisure and recreation, and/or for religious activities. In historically Christian countries the weekend typically covers Saturday and Sunday, while in Muslim countries it is Thursday and Friday or Friday and Saturday. In Israel, the weekend is Friday and Saturday. Sometimes the end of the preceding work day is considered part of the weekend.

That’s right, Friday baby! So what is everyone doing. Seth is probably painting textures on the walls of his mom’s hom by rolling his body on the walls, micahel is probably trying to do a posedown for brooke’s relatives in VA, cameron is probably wearing an apron while trying to cook stuff mushrooms, brisket, and some fancy french sauce, spencer is probably passed out on the couch with money signs running over his head, and who knows what i’m doing, probably playing some halo 3!

yikes, those are some scarry thoughts, cameron babysitting (we all know how you treated emily’s baby), kress with the youth! and cameron with power tools, watch out!

please, if you can do it, i can do it. there really isn’t much to baby sitting anyway, just turn on the tv and put the kid on the floor with some toys. i just kick back and read. the day goes by so fast.

Comment by Seth — June 1, 2007 @ 12:30 pm
The grill is still in the backyard up in b-ville, i kept trying to get you to take it! LOL, it is probably still up there, you need to go up there and snatch it back!

Scam isn’t babysitting, elliot is babysitting scam!
Comment by jtuffy — June 1, 2007 @ 12:36 pm
Scam, aren’t you Elliot’s father? Maybe you should try parenting instead of babysitting!
Oh, and I had a great idea after watching good eats yesterday. I am going to start making electric ceramic barbecues and sell them with a recipe book. They will be fool proof… anyone can make amazing barbecue with them!
Comment by Seth — June 1, 2007 @ 12:41 pm
Oh Snap!
Electric ceramic barbecue? What is the wild world of texas is that? Is this something you would actually make in a kiln?
Comment by jtuffy — June 1, 2007 @ 12:43 pm
Think a regular smoker shape, but instead of a fire in the bottom just an electric hotplate that you put a pan of wood chunks on to create the smoke. The beauty is that there is no fire to maintain, you just set the temp and change the wood chunks a few times. I was thinking of adding a small door that you could change the woodchunks through. So, there ya go… great barbecue for the novice!
And yes… it would be made in the kiln. It would be about the size of a tall teracotta planter (that is actualy what Alten Brown used in the episode of good eats for his barbecue.)
What do you think? I’ll have to make a few prototypes and start working on some foolproof recipes for an included cookbook. If you guys want to help test em, and are willing to pay the shipping, we could send some out.
Also, Scam… the best way to promote and advertise them would be to take them to competitions. Then, when people like the food, you can just say… well, here is an order form, just buy one and you can enjoy it everyday! Watch out weber!

Alright seth, here is a question, how much do you sell your stuff for, i’ve always wondered, like, do you have a pic of a piece you sold and how much for. I’ve always been intersted.

Scam - i think this may interest you. There is a guy i work with that was in Vietnam and he was close to this, not actually in it, but i thought it was interesting. He is a really cool guy, very frank. He said on his first day there they had to walk in the tank tracks to avoid the mines and some guy stepped out of the tracks and was blown to pieces and his gun came whizzing by him, he said to himself, there is no way i’m going to survive this for a year.

that looks really interesting. i’ll have to listen to it when i’m not in the office.
seth, the cookers sound like a cool idea. they have these ceramic ones called the incredible eggs or something. they are in big oval shapes. guys frown on the temp control cookers because they take the human element out of the art of smoking. you don’t see many of them at competitions but the guys that use them typically do pretty well. definitely worth looking into.

Yea… I just checked out “The Big Green Egg” online. They look kinda cool. It was kinda cheesey how they claim to use space age ceramics to allow a higher heat, up to 700 degrees. Any high fired ceramics can easily withstand that kind of temperature. And it was also funny that their product is produced in Mexico by the finest local craftsman with a long and proud ceramic heritage. They make this sound like a big benefit, when really it is just cheap labor, anyway.
I had in mind something a little more aestheticaly pleasing. Something that looks as nice as it works. The big green egg was also set up to use charcoal… I was thinking of making an electric version and possibley a wood version with an external firebox. But either way, much nicer looking than the green egg.
Jon, I don’t know if mom has any pictures of work that I have sold. I’ll check. I recently sold a pie plate for $50, a lided jar for $85 and a square vase for $20… I gave her a discount on the vase, it normally would have sold for $50-75. Pricing is the worst… it is very hard to asign value to any type of art because its value is relative to the individual. I would like to keep my prices low enough that people will buy the work and feel like they can actualy use it like it was intended to be used. But, if your prices are too low people actualy question the quality and value of the work… it is a thin and kinda stupid line. Pricing is harder for me than making the work, lol.

I guess mom has some pics of my stuff at work… I’ll go over tonight and link a few with the prices.
Comment by Seth — June 1, 2007 @ 3:59 pm
come on now seth, why can’t they be experts in ceramics.
Comment by jtuffy — June 1, 2007 @ 4:09 pm
a wood one would be really cool. what would be cool is if you could set it up so you could cook directly over the wood if you wanted but then had a seperate area for the indirect/smoking aspect. i’d like to take a look at some ideas you have. i’ll put some together myself.
dude, jon, how could you just leave my grill.
Comment by The Scam — June 1, 2007 @ 4:28 pm
seth, what do you think about a take on a chimenea type thing. you know what i’m talking about? the little fireplaces that sit on your back porch. maybe a similar idea but different form?
Comment by The Scam — June 1, 2007 @ 4:48 pm
Yea, Scam… that’s kind of what I was thinking. In stead of a decorative self enclosed fireplace… make a barbecue that sits on your back porch. I am still coming up with ideas… just thought of all of this last night, but I definantley appreciate the input.
And Jon, I don’t understand your comment about everybody being experts… please clarify.
Comment by Seth — June 1, 2007 @ 5:06 pm
he meant the mexicans.
i think.
Comment by The Scam — June 1, 2007 @ 5:18 pm
Oh, lol. Don’t get me wrong. There is a great tradition of skilled ceramists in Mexico. But not really pioneers in space age ceramic science. If you read the description on their site you’ll see that its just a little over the top.
