Alright itunes usesers. There is a feature on itunes that lets you organize your library according to how many times you have listened to a song. So, the question is... what are your top 10 most listened to songs? For the anti-apple folks... I don't know if you can track this or not, but for all those that can, let 'er rip.

Well, That's my current top 10... though it changes often. I expect to see Vampire Weekend poping in there soon (new band I really like!) I hope you guys take the time to post your list... I see people listening to their mp3 players everywhere I go and I'm always curious as to what they are listening to.
Hey Scam, heard anything of Alkaline Trio's new album? If so, whatcha think?
Some interesting songs in there... I don't even know half of the artists you listed. I don't have an ipod so I can't give you straight facts of the songs I listen to. Maybe I'll list an estimate here in a little while. I've got a project I have to focus on until it's due later today.
Estimates are good too. Just interesting to see what people are listening to. I really want to see Spencer's top 10. Last time I saw him, he had some pretty funny stuff on the ol' ipod.
Jonnycakes top 10
1. (69) Girl all the bad guys want, bowling for soup
2. (59) Mr. Brightside, The Killers
3. (57) Thanks for the Memories, Fall Out Boy
4. (53) Carmina Burana: O Fortuna, Boston Symphony; Orff
5. (53) California, Phantom Planet
6. (53) Ocean Avenue, Yellowcard
7. (45) Lose Yourself, Eminem
8. (45) See You Again, Miley Cyrus
9. (39) Bless the Broken Road, Rascal Flatts
10. (37) Welcome to the Black Parade, My Chemical Romance
Most of these songs are for running, Carmina Burana is my power song! LOL. Move ALong by the All american rejects and "I kissed a girl" are moving up the charts fast though! : )
Seth, maybe i know some of those songs, but not one of them rings a bell. Of course you and scam were always the ones courting the DJs.
Nice list! I like about all those songs and even own a few. I really need ocean ave... that was a killer song.
I'm gonna look and see about making an itunes playlist... then you can go to the itunes store and at least listen to samples of my top 10. I bet you would like alot of them, some good up beat, get up and go stuff.
Tuffy... Hannah Montana?! What is this world coming to. And what is this "power song?" I'm not sure of your My Chemical Romance song (don't know it, at least not by name) but I really like The Ghost of You by them.
I'll give my list tomorrow but have you guys heard that new song called Handlebars by The Flobots. I don't know who they are but that song is catchy. If you haven't heard it, keep your ears open. It's growing in popularity.
Hey, that Hanna Montanna song has a good running beat! A power song is something you hit to get you pumped up for the run or if you need a mental stimulus.
The Flobots? How do you hear all this crazy music, i only know what is on the radio.

I've heard Handlebars on the radio, pretty often too. It's just not on the jiggy-rap top 40 stations, so Jon hasn't heard it yet. By the way... the Hanna Montana thing was too funny. But the 259 song I have is an LDS acapela group singing an old spiritual, I guess we all have some wierd tastes.
Doms, Scam and Smengler need to weigh in. I'm waiting...
Okay, here's my top 10 estimate, but only due to circumstance (all my cd's have been left in the house so I've had only one cd in my truck for weeks straight; and also b/c I only have so many songs on my computer and I never buy more these days - which I'm not happy about):
1. Alice in Chains, Rain When I Die
2. Alice in Chains, Sea of Sorrow
3. 30 Seconds to Mars, From Yesterday
4. Big Wreck, That Song
5. Days of the New, Shelf in the Room
6. Days of the New, Never Drown
7. Disturbed, Prayer
8. Disturbed, Remember
9. Staind, Home
10. A Perfect Circle, 3 Libras
Although these may not be in exact order. Notice there is no Hillary Duff in there tuffy. And seth is right, Handlebars is on the radio quite frequently, though I don't get to hear it much.
I totaly have the "no metronome" part stuck in my head! Thanks Doms...
So Jon, did you hear that Candlebox is coming out with a new album? They have released severl singles from it. You were nuts about those guys way back in the day.
I made an imix with my top songs and a few more. You can check it out at the itunes store... http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewIMix?id=284726439&s=143441 , or look it up on the store. It's entitled, "s.o.s. sloth's most played"
Well, it appears that jenny has been spying on the blog, i'm sitting on the plane yesterday and the song that came up was some handlebars song, i had to laugh, i didn't really get the song, i thought it was going to start rocking out, but it never did, so in my opinion, it wasn't my cup of tea. LOL, but it was pretty funny that jenny went out and got that one. Oh, and i just saw cameron tonight. I guess since he doesn't blog he has plenty of time to go to pool parties! LOL
That is funny. Give the song a few tries. It'll grow on you and before you know it it'll be competing with Hannah Montana. Oh who am I kidding.
i don't have any way to measure what i play the most but here's an estimate:
1) I'da called you Woody, Joe: The Gaslight Anthem
2) Fear and Loathing on Long Island: Latterman
3) Jodie: Saves the Day
4) Shoulder to the Wheel: Saves the Day
5) Lean on Sheena: The Bouncing Souls
6) Cliche Guevarra: Against Me!
7) We laugh at Danger: Against Me!
8) Cities Burn: Anti-Flag
9) Jane: The Loved Ones
10) Deja Entendou: Brand New
11)Brick Wall Views: The Lawrence Arms
All of them are awesome. Tuffy, if you like power songs that get you pumped up, i've got some good suggestions. i'm impressed at everyone's selections. tuffy has quite the spectrum going on. from my chemical romance to hannah montana to rascal flatts. my goodness.
sloth, i saw alkaline trio in concert a couple of weeks ago. it was a good show. i have only heard a couple of songs off of their new album. their song "radio" is one of the greatest songs of all time though.
oh, as well: i should have list Konstantine by Something Corporate. i listen to that song all the time.
we should all swap some CDs or something. expose each other to our tastes.
CD exchange sounds like a great idea... we just have to all actualy do it. So we all put together a mix (maybe two... if your feeling ambitious) make four copies and send them to everyone. I say we include Spence... just let him be surprised when music randomly starts showing up. You guys up for it?
The way scam puts it, it seems kind of dirty but I'm into it. I think we should post our playlist to make sure no one has heard the songs we plan to use. Maybe we should stipulate some categories that must be included. Like at least one "power song," etc.
Ok, one correction, after i called jenny out on the plane, she had actually downloaded the song a couple weeks ago, it was just ironic that it came up. And i really don't think that song will grow on me. way to goofy!
Your mom's goofy... the song, however, is catchy. Anyway...
What are some other catagories Doms?
How about a category of "deep" meaning it's a song that really gets you lost in the lyrics. This is the hallmark of the best artists and music for me. When we listen to each other's "deep" songs, we must try to see if we can hear it, or at least see if we can understand why it moves some people.
Maybe another category could be "fun." Remember Cotton-eyed Joe? That was a fun song. But include one that is not common to everyone. Cotton-eyed Joe was fun, but kind of silly. I don't think it would fit this category exactly. The song should have more to it than just silliness.
You guys can refine my suggestions. Maybe we could do other things like have a song that is moving almost entirely from its lyrics. Another that is from a guitar or beat, etc. There are so many things. Also we should choose a song that bests represents the artist we think is the best of all time and why. Even if we've heard it before so maybe we can see them in a new light. What do you think?
I like Doms suggestions. we could outline the categories and then send a little memo or something to explain why we chose what we chose.
So that's what we'll do. We can also have weekly assignments; like this week we must study everyone's "deep song" category (obviously not THIS week). Then we blog our comments about each and compare. It'll really be interesting to hear everyone's take on something so intimate.
I like it. I'm pretty excited. I think another catagory should be best mix. Making a mix of songs that work well together is like the design behind any peice of art, they need to be unified but still create interest through variation and contrast. Can be tricky... I like to pick a theme (usualy at the bigining of each summer so I have some new music to listen to) and create a mix around that theme. Oddly no matter what the theme is, some David Bowie always seems to slip in there, and the Stones have almost as frequent a reoccurance. Anyway...
My catagory suggestion would be to take a theme and create a 5-6 song mix that is meant to be listened to together like an album. It'll be fun to see how people respond to the challenge.
Also... I think we should include our top 10 most played and in addition have 3-4 catagories and pick a few songs for each. I personaly could not pick 1 "deep" song, I might be able to narrow it down to a top 5 (has anyone seen High Fidelity? It would be a good referance for this entire progect, lol... throughout the entire movie they are making lists of top five songs to meet different criteria)
So, my suggestion... include top 10 most played, 5 deep songs (songs of profound personal meaning), 5 fun songs (songs you just get into for whatever reason), 5 songs that represent your oppinion of the greatest music artists and a 5 song mix that relates to a theme. That's 30 songs... should be about the right size for a cd. If you want to get ambitious and make a 2 cd set, more power to ya... I can never have too much music! lol
What do you guys think?
On second thought... scratch the top ten most played and replace it with a top 5 power songs for jonny cakes. That drops us down to 25 songs... which should fit on one cd. If not make it an mp3 cd and they should all deffinantly fit.
What happened to the gung ho on the music bit? I'm waiting to see the results, you know i don't have much to offer since i listen to sports radio and top 40 stuff (except the jigger rap)
ok, exactly why i don't like apple, they are not intuitive. How do i find this playlist of yours Seth. I've searched around using your s.o.s..... but nothing comes up. I'm sitting here racking my brain trying to come up with songs to get from itunes but there aren't any i would pay for, though i did just get a nice brasilian beat.
on the music section of the store page... there is a little box called more music. click on imix, and the search "s.o.s. sloth" it'll pop right up. hope you enjoy it!
I'm not that active on the blog this week because our inspections are scheduled for next tuesday and we are hustling to get everything done. I should be more active next week.
ok, got it, i guess i never went to the music page, i was always on the main one.
Oh and seth, you inspired me with the northface endurance run, I'm signed up for the race on Sept 6 in D.C.
Wow... that's really cool. But... what the heck are you doing to get ready? Hopefully more than just running on the treadmill. It's okay, I'm sure my playlist will carry you to new heights!
I think I'm going to go shopping for the my treadmill sometime in the next week. I want it dropped off the day we move in to the house! It sounds really stupid... but I day dream about running, just running. I'm really excited to do the endurance chalenge next year!
Let me know what you are doing to prep... and best of luck!
"It sounds really stupid... but I day dream about running, just running."
-Seth
This one slays me every time! When I read this I feel like I'm peering into the very strange world of seth's mind... and I like it!
Hey... when you are in good shape, running feels great. I miss it.
i'm studying for the bar like 16 hours a day so i basically have time to eat and go to the bathroom. sometimes i just poop my pants if i don't think i can spare the time.
give me a couple of weeks to come up with my list.
