Anyone have vacation plans, anyone want to get together for a mini-vacation? Spencer brought it up to me the other day.

Vegas. I'm not joking. I'll be there July 9-13th. Brooke can't make it due to the major calling to save money. So who's in? I'll be staying in the Paris hotel for a discount. Let me know now so I can book a double bed. Plus, since it's for the NSCA conference, you guys could consider getting passes to that. You could try out all their new supplements and crazy workout equipment in the exhibition.

Seth said...

I'm out for July... Rachel is going to be in Washinton for three weeks, so I've got the kids.

We should hit Vegas in August. Then we don't have to wait around for you to sample all the suplements.

JTuffy said...

LOL, double beds, why not a king? I can imagine all the juice you are fired up with that week!

So who watches the kids while you are at work seth? How much is a baby sitter?

Seth said...

We take them to a small daycare here in town. We really like the lady who runs it. She is really good with the kids. It's way to expensive, but we are hoping that the Grandmas might be able to come and spend some time with them while Rachel is out of town.

I was looking at tents and sleeping bags online and saw that the north face puts on several regional trail running races, called the endurance challenge. Each race has a 10k, half marathon, 50k or 50 miler option. It looks pretty cool, we should do something like that next summer (10k for me... maybe further the next year) and just start planning for it now. We always talk big... it's about time we start making things happen! Here is the race link http://www.thenorthface.com/endurancechallenge/

DOMS 287 said...

Yeah, okay. I'll see you chumps on the 3rd mile marker. I'll have some water to splash on you and some jellybeans for you to get your blood sugar back up.

So Seth's out for Vegas in July, but I still have to go. Anyone interested? What do you think Leigh Ann?

gone said...

I'd love to go !! Sounds like fun!

JTuffy said...

Oh, i'm in for the endurance challenge for sure!!!! Doms, why don't you use your plane tickets to come hang out this weekend, should be a good time at the gun show in valley forge!

DOMS 287 said...

I'll see how much that ticket would cost.

Alright Leigh Ann, sounds like it's just the two of us. Guess I don't need a double bed after all...

gone said...

That'll be fine. Who sleeps in Vegas anyway ?

Cameron said...

i've got the bar in august and the ethics test in august. some i'm pretty much out for the summer. early fall, or later would be perfecto.

Seth said...

Scam, your colon have enough endurance to run a 10k trail race next year? If so, you better start training... if not, grab a cork and start training anyway! I'm telling you guys... no more, "I think next year sounds good." Lets just plan on it and make it happen. Even if Doms has too much body mass to move 10k at an excelarated rate, it'll still be tons of fun.

JTuffy said...

I've checked out the races, i think i'm going to sign up for the one in DC on the 6th of Sept. Definitely would do the 10K, nothing more than that. I have a 5 mile race this friday, no way would i do the long distances.

So, how about those gays getting married in California? On Cnn.com there is a picture of two 80 year old women kissing; enough to make you throw up. What a bunch of crazies, no wonder the rest of the world hates us. It is scary the way this country is heading.

DOMS 287 said...

I saw those ladies on tv! Yes, insane, and I'm not talking about their senile status! I'm sure countries like Italy and the like have no problem whatsoever. They'd have gay marriage if they themselves married in the first place. Either way, we need to just stand aside and let the gays have what they want. Our resistance will only cause them to get crazier. It's only a matter of time before they have the same rights as us, so why fight it and cause more problems.

And I don't know why you guys think running marathons is manly, or even honorable. It's pathetic really. I would like to get some pictures of you guys in your super short shorts though!!

JTuffy said...

It is definitely more "honorable" than greasing down some guy in a red thong! I would say about 99.9% of the population would agree with me on that one! :)

And Doms, it is the underlying principles of morality that these "gays" are undermining. Why should they get married, what is next polygamy, child marriage? Can they have kids? Do you know how messed up a kid like that would be?

DOMS 287 said...

As far as gays raising kids, it already happens. There's no stopping that. True example: Man and woman marry and have kids. One year later, more or less, the husband (or the wife) decides they are gay. The couple splits on good terms. The gay party finds another lover and lives with them. They still have their equal custody rights of the child, therefore the child grows up in a gay home. That's just one of the many examples of it in our society today, and it happens all the time.

But again, the bottom line is that the gays have reached a level of acceptance in our society that they are powerful. And not only that but they are DETERMINED. They are on their way to equal rights whether you like or not. The more resistance we put up, the more they will want it and go for it. It's like illegal drugs. If we would just legalize them, then we would have much less crime and problems in general. There's no stopping the rise of gay rights. Learn to live with it, or get run over by it. As for other things like polygamy, that doesn't have a big movement behind it. It isn't even in the ballpark of gays. It's such a minority of people that would want to do it that it will never happen. Also, keep in mind that gays have been around forever. They have just been in the closet. They are finally getting to come out and now they SEEM to be growing in number (as they may be, but it isn't a significant growth -- they have always been there in huge numbers). It's over. The gays will get married in most states soon (relatively). They will be able to adopt too. They will also become the beloved preacher at the corner Baptist church. The generation of kids we are bringing up will not see as much of a problem with it as we do.

JTuffy said...

Since when did you become such a pacifist doms??? So you just roll over and play dead huh? Nothing is worth fighting for anymore? That is truly a sad state of affairs. I'm sick of all this PC acceptance BS; i'm telling you that this country is headed to civil turmoil. And legalizing drugs, accepting gay marriages, and other factors will be the biggest contributors. No one has any morals, no one has any values. People get run over in the street and no one stops to help them. Well, there will be a day of reconing; this selfish society will turn in on itself. And those good people will have to turn their heads to their suffering.

But hey, no one listens, everyone knows that drikning and smoking and single parent homes are a detriment (in general) to the betterment of society. I can only imagine what Rosie O'donnel's kids are going to be like. Why can't the crazies in the middle east go blow up this crazy mayors in california instead of innocent people??

DOMS 287 said...

See tuffy? This is how religious wars get started. People were saying the same things when we came to America with religious freedom. They said the same things when they developed a democracy and allowed the uneducated to vote. They said the same things when women were gaining the right to vote. They said the same thing when women began to hold higher positions in society. They said the same thing when slavery was being abolished. They said the same thing blacks were gaining the right to vote. They said the same thing with interracial marriages. Noticing a trend to all of this? These are all big movements starting from similar places as the gays are today. When it's all said and done, life won't have changed much. The only differences we'll see are more same sex couples and less crime against them. Maybe even a decrease in the spread of STD's. It's not a matter of pacifism, it's a matter of looking at history, considering the real consequences, and choosing your battles.

And I can't believe you don't think legalizing drugs is the answer to monumental problems. Just think how much of your taxes are being used to fight it... TO NO PREVAIL! They can't even slow it down, yet they keep fighting it. Why? Good question. These drugs aren't even a fraction of the danger alcohol is. Alcohol puts the user at risk (when driving, which we can't stop or slow either), and innocent people all over, of course including children. I don't expect you to defend alcohol, but I do expect you to say we should stop it too. The point is it's already here, and it's been here even before car accidents were a problem. It isn't a sign that society is going down the tubes. It's just a sign of life. Anyway, legalizing drugs would knock a big portion of crime in the head and save lives and money.

Cameron said...

i'm surprised our political heavyweights haven't chimed in on this discussion yet. (i.e. spencer and seth)

whatever, we'll see if it even passes the supreme court. by the looks of the justices, i'd say they will have a tough time. of course no one really knows how alito will go, but at least he's not as washy as o'connor.

Cameron said...

i don't know about legalizing drugs, doms. contrary to popular belief, crime rates and violence actually went down during prohibition. its just been highlighted because all of the capone-esque gang fights.

if drugs were legalized it would be a horrible situation. drugs are seriously bad news. are you just pushing legalizing drugs for your muscular needs?

(i really hate pulling the steroid card on you, michael. please don't take offense. it's the old reliable. when i don't have anything funny to say steroids will always get a laugh)

DOMS 287 said...

In this case scam, it's not just history we need to look at, but history + evolution. The evolution of crime is horrendous. Al Capone's crime is nothing compared to today's crime with illegal drugs. What crime do you suspect would increase if we legalized drugs?

Seth said...

You know it's funny... Is it enough just to be the best you can be and teach good principles to your family and anyone else who may see the qualities of your life and who want to know why you do the things you do? Or, does our moral belief dictate that we do everything we can to prescribe our beliefs on the populace through government regulation? I honestly just don't know. How does the term, "teach them correct principles and let them govern themselves..." aply to politics? Or, to those who have no desire to be taught? If you guys know the answer to this one, do tell... I still have trouble wrapping my head around this philisophical delima.

As for the drug issue... you may be surprised to know I've researched the history of prohibition and drug use. There are many arguments for and against and many ways of looking at the data. Illicit drug use has only risen as more drugs have become illegal. But, the overall use of those drugs has, historicaly, decreesed as those drugs have become illegal. Only in the wake of recent counterculture has there been a rise in illicit drug use but it is stil minimul in comparison to the projected estimates if the bans were lifted.

The only real problem I see is how we determin which drugs can be legal and which illegal. For instance... the idea that alcohol is in some way less dangerous than marijuana is laughable. The entire anti marijuana campaign has roots (no pun intended) in the paper industry. Many heads of the industry felt threatened by the production of hemp so they funded the early awarness campaigns of the 40s, 50s and 60s, and lobbied for the ban on mariguana. Much of the research that is used to this day to deter people from marijuana use was funded by these paper manufacturers and others with an obviously biased interest. Bottom line, if pot is illegal... alcohol definantly should be. And then there are cigarets... why does our government allow people to kill themselves? Because doing such is a big ticket item... such is the story of government and drug use. If columbian cocaine grows formed an association and lobbied... who knows what would happen!

Anyway... I'm rambling, but the history of drug use is really fascinating. I didn't even touch opiates or emphetamines... I guess we'll save that lesson for another day.

JTuffy said...

What do you mean that Al Capones crimes are not like they are today, he would gun down people with a Tommy gun! how is that different than getting shot with a 9MM?

How could you possibly think that that crime, broken homes, and devestated lives would not increase if drugs were legalized? If you could cruise down to your local QT and pick up some meth, you don't think that drug use would increase?

Seth, I believe that you have to force the good onto people at times, the scriptures are full of these examples that the harsh word was the only thing that would keep the people in check. We know who is going to be the head of all government in the end. Why not strive for that?

Cameron said...

it is an interesting situation with morality and the law.

from the scriptures, moroni certainly forced people to uphold righteousness. if they defied him they were put to death.

but then you have king benjamin who lead by example.

then mosiah reminded us that when you have a single ruler, his morality can trickle down. and especially that when the majority of people choose evil, they are ripe for destruction.

D&C 98 says that the people need to search out righteous and wise people to lead the government.

i think it is important that we choose people with strong morals to make those decisions because we hope that they will represent the best things for our society.

i don't think we should force our morals on people in our legal decisions, but we choose people to make those decisions because their morals are aligned with ours.

DOMS 287 said...

Tuffy, no one said drug USE would not increase with legalization. I said CRIME would decrease. I also said the drugs are harmless compared to our legal drug, alcohol. How many people have died from marijuana? Any? It's like seth mentioned with cigarettes, they, along with alcohol, are there for people to do what they want. If they want to screw up their lives, so be it (not saying seth said that). Alcohol's the exception since it can kill innocent people too. Other drugs are basically harmless to other people.

And if you think crime is just as dangerous today as it was with Lil Al, then you'd better not take the shortcut through da hood, brotha.

DOMS 287 said...

On another note, have you guys ever heard of the term cybersquatter? It has two meanings: 1) Tuffy was a cybersquatter when he got on that gay and lesbian blog and posted antagonistic statements, and 2) someone that buys a domain name of a major person or company in order to sell it to them for a profit. This latter meaning is my focus here. This apparently happened to Carls Jr. when someone got the rights to carlsjr.com before they did! They say that cybersquatters are making hundreds to a million $$$$! This happened to Julia Roberts too when someone snagged juliaroberts.com. Boys, we might have something here... (don't tell Mr. PC)

Seth said...

On that note... a lady in the area created a non profit organization to help the families of firemen and policemen who died or were injured in the line of duty. The organization has grown rapidly and they were required to switch from a .com to a .org. So get this... some scuz bag in Germany bought the .com web address from the provider when it became available again and put a bunch of porn on it, so people looking for the organizations website have the .com website pop up in searches and are unexpectedly expossed. And there is nothing anyone can do about it... so messed up.

Seth said...

So... anyone seen any summer movies? There have been some good ones so far.

DOMS 287 said...

Seth, your story is pretty funny. So...... what's the name of that site?

Cameron said...

indiana jones was a pretty big disappointment. i know, seth probably really liked, tuffy thought it was dumb, and doms hasn't seen it. i know both arguments and i stand by my personal opinion that it could have been much better. george lucas has officially become a moron by ruining my childhood heroes in his attempt to pimp them out for more profits.

iron man was a good ride.

DOMS 287 said...

I don't know anyone that liked indiana jones (and you're right scam, I haven't seen it myself). Seth, why don't you be the first and tell us how good it was.

Seth said...

I haven't seen it... it looked so stupid I decided to wait until I can get it from the red box. I did see Iron Man and The Inredable Hulk... I enjoyed both of those. Good action, driven by the story and not just for actions sake (ok... some of the action was self serving but it was usualy well done enough that it didn't matter... besides, who can argue with Iron Man or Hulk smashing stuf up?) I absolutely loved Speed Racer... it's my favorite of the summer, so far. A complete visual overload, coupled with a great story... kinda hokie, but hey, it's Speed Racer for pete's sake. I'ld be pissed if it wasn't a little hokie.

Looking forward to The Dark Knight in a big way. As well as a bunch of others like Hancock and Get Smart. X-Files sequal might be good. Hellboy 2 looks way better than the first one. This is the first summer in years that I have been consistantly excited by the movies coming out.

Except Indiana Jones... I knew it was going to be bad when Lucas made the statement that he wanted this instalment to be more like the Star Wars prequals. This was about 2 years before it came out, right after the last star wars movie. The joke at the time was that this explained the title... Indiana Jones and the kingdom of suck.

JTuffy said...

I want to see the movie. I never really go to the movies now a days. I can't stand sitting in those nasty seats for 2 hours while eating 6 dollar popcorn. I love the old redbox routine and laying on the couches in my undies with the surround sound blasting. Much better way to go. Just invest in a good sound system and you can forgo the movies. You'll probably recoup your investment in about 20 movies! I think the last movie i saw in the theater was spiderman 3. if you just use the redbox method, a new movie comes out every couple of weeks, you just have to get on the schedule.

DOMS 287 said...

What's that new movie coming out (or just came out) by the makers of the sixth sense? It's supposed to be their first rated R flick (horror). I want to see that.

Seth said...

I have heard that "The Happening" was horrible... the joke is that it should have been called Whats Happening. In response to critisism of the film, M Night Shyamalan said it was intended to be a silly "b" movie. Disapointing. The guy needs to try his hand at something besides suspense, I bet he would make an interesting romantic comedy.

As for just renting movies, some movies just need to be seen on the big screen, the small screen just doesn't do them justice. I'm talking about movies with action or epic scope. Occasionaly a comedy or drama will come along that has something to gain from the big screen, but it usualy doesn't matter what size screen they are seen on or the quality of the sound system. I mean, c'mon... Braveheart on the big screen is just better than on a tv.

Oh and Jon... I'm sorry your last theater experiance was such a horrible one. You probably just have a bad taste in your mouth because Spidey 3 was the suck. Go see Iron Man... totaly worth it. Or wait for Dark Knight!

DOMS 287 said...

Seth, might I suggest you not be so sure of your taste in movies based on what critics say. Did you not like the sixth sense? That was suspenseful, and very popular. I definitely liked it; but I will say some things were kind of silly.

And don't forget the riches tuffy enjoys. He doesn't have just any tv, and it isn't small. If tuffy feels his tv isn't big and bad enough -- and that he must go to the theater to get real enjoyment -- I'll send him my tv, let him get used to it again, then let him turn his back on to be reminded of its omnipotence.

JTuffy said...

Dang Skippy, i glory in my 56 inches of 1080P goodness, with Denon reciever and polk surround sound! Amazing, once you go home theater, it is tough to go back. I think i would die if i had something less than 40 inches now and no HD. It is like a cell phone, don't know how people live without it! LOL. And it is money well spent, if you think about the usage, ....pennies on the hour....pennies on the hour my friends.

Seth said...

Doms... I have critics that I generaly agree with and critics I generaly don't. I also have friends whose taste I relate to and friends I don't. But... when you don't hear one good thing about a movie from anyone, it kind of makes you wonder. Now... the overwhelming majority of critics trashed Speed Racer and I really liked it, so it's not totaly acurate. But, if you hear not a single good thing about a movie from anyone... theres a pretty strong chance it's going to be a piece of crap. Strong enough chance that I'll wait for the red box fo' sho'.

Also... didn't the sixth sense get great reviews? If you liked it and it got great reviews... and the Happening got wretched reviews, you must not like it... right? lol

Also... 52 inches or 52 feet? 52 inches is really cool... suround sounds, also cool. But... 52 feet with giant surround sound speakers just blows it away in some things. Don't get me wrong... if you are going to enjoy movies and tv at home by all means enjoy them as much as possible. But, in my opinion, they still just aren't the same as a nice theater (not all theaters are created equal unfortunantly... I'm sure your system is better than a few I've been in.)

DOMS 287 said...

Seth, my point about the sixth sense was that if you liked it, then your statement, "The guy needs to try his hand at something besides suspense..." is not well based, because, again, the sixth sense was suspenseful, and... you liked it!

JTuffy said...

honestly, i've never liked any of his movies, they try to be suspenseful with long pauses, doesn't work for me. but may for others.

Seth said...

I liked the sixth sense... I pretty much liked unbreakable. Signs was a steaming pile. The vilage was lack luster on a day I am feeling forgiving. I really enjoyed Lady in the water, gasp... which was a fantasy, not a suspence/thriller. Hence... I think he should try his hand at something else, you know... because I liked the results. Funny... it's like I thought that statement I made through... who woulda thunk?

What was the last movie you all saw that you really thouroughly enjoyed?

DOMS 287 said...

I also liked unbreakable. And the village was not the best, but it was entertaining.

One movie I really enjoyed was the illusionist. I also really liked the Saw series (I'm sure we all did)! I'm sure there's one or two others, but I don't really pay all that much attention, nor do I watch very many in the first place.

Cameron said...

first off, i pretty much love anything m. night does. unbreakable is one of the coolest movies around. as for signs.

second - the illusionist was crap. a poor rip off of the prestige (which was moderately awesome).

i've been asked to compile a list of the manliest movies for a website. i'm writing a little snippet for each. when it goes up i'll let you guys know.

any suggestions?

JTuffy said...

Trying to sneak on the art of manliness huh? Don't you have to have a few chest hairs first! LOL. Many movies of course are terminator series, rambo series, roundhouse, top gun, conan, mission impossible series, james bond series, aliens series, hoosiers, the natural, .... Man movies have action and/or sports. There are tons out there, usually involve shooting and explosions and some hot babe! LOL

If you wanna read something interesting about an organization leaking secret files of the LDS church, you should read this Fox News article:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,368315,00.html

Let me know if you have heard anything about this from the church.

JTuffy said...

if it is about that dumb website that just tries to get attention by publishing copyrighted documents, that is a waste. People doing things just to get attention or to be mean. Plus, who in their right mind would find an instruction manual interesting, that is like publishing the instructions to a hand mixer or something. They are just doing it for a rise, hopefully they get sued and shut out of business, just a bunch of jerks with web sites.

DOMS 287 said...

Yes, that's what it is. How did you hear about it? Has the church commented on it? I agree it's nothing. But do you know how they got a hold of it?

Anyway, looks like we're on for tonight!

JTuffy said...

Beautiful!!! I just saw that it was on foxnews.com, that is my news website of choice, check it a couple times of day
